City Council Awards Construction Contract

On March 18, 2009 the City of Bayfield Common Council reviewed six bids for the Sewer and Water System Rehabilitation – Phase II project. They subsequently made a motion to award the bid to Utility Systems of America, Inc. This company is from Eveleth, MN and has worked for the City in the past. Although the City did receive very competitive bids, no bids were received from any local companies.

Community Input Session

The City of Bayfield will host a community input session on Monday, May 11, 2009 from 4-5 p.m. at the Bayfield City Hall. It will be your opportunity to hear more about the project details and timeline, and for you to ask questions.

Milestones and Completion

According to the City’s contract with Utility Systems of America, Inc. the bidder has agreed to the following:

  1. For work located within State Highway 13 right of way, the Contractor must complete all utility work and have binder course of asphalt pavement installed by June 30, 2009.

  1. The surface course of asphalt pavement on Rittenhouse Avenue, South Fifth Street, Old Military Road, Sixth Street Alley, and the intersections of Rittenhouse Avenue and Eighth Street and Manypenny Avenue and Eighth Street and Washington Avenue and Eighth Street all must be installed by October 30, 2009.
  2. The Bidder agrees that the work will be substantially complete on or before October 1, 2009 and will be totally completed by July 30, 2010.

Health & Safety

Due to these repairs to our Water and Sewer System, we will be continuously chlorinating the water system beginning on May 4, 2009 and ending Mid November 2009.

Water & Sewer Laterals

During this project, the City will be installing new water and sewer mains along portions of this project as well as replacing old services to the shut off. This may be a good time for you to consider replacing any old lines you have to new ¾” or 1” copper water laterals and 4” PVC sewer lateral before they start to fail. If you are interested you should contact a licensed plumber for a proposal.
