City of Bayfield’s
Water & Sewer Improvement Project

A NEWSLETTER FOR ALL CITY OF BAYFIELD PROPERTY OWNERS – JANUARY 9, 2009

Project Announcement

The City of Bayfield will soon be soliciting construction bids for another extensive Water and Sewer System Rehabilitation Project. You are receiving this newsletter since you will directly be impacted by the project.  A project map has been included with this newsletter.

Once the bids are received and a contractor is selected, the City will host a community input session.  It will be your opportunity to hear more about the project details and timeline, and for you to ask questions.  We anticipate this meeting will be held the last week of April or the first week of May. The City recognizes egress in and out of the City may be disrupted at times. More information about estimated work times and schedules will be forthcoming.  We will do our best to minimize the disruption to you, your guests and/or patrons.

At an estimated cost of nearly $2.6 million, the sewer and water system improvements and new roads, curb and gutter (and some sidewalk) will greatly improve City infrastructure.  Much of the cost will be covered by the Clean Water Fund of the Department of Natural Resources and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Section 154 Fund.

Project Background

In 2004 and 2005, the City of Bayfield hired an engineering firm to review the City’s Water and Sewer collection system.  This was in accordance with an agreement we made with the Department of Natural Resources in an effort to reduce the City’s inflow and infiltration into the City’s sanitary sewer system.  The report shows, with great detail, areas of the City in need of the most attention. During Phase 1, almost every manhole was repaired or replaced and 60 new manholes were added.  In addition, some of the water and sewer lines that were listed as the most critical or in the worst condition were replaced.  Phase II is a continuation of this effort.

Ongoing communication

The City of Bayfield realizes the significant disruption this project may cause and would like to keep you as up-to-date as possible.  Therefore we will be sending e-newsletters to you during the duration of the project.  Just send an e-mail to cityclerk@charter.net requesting to receive the Phase II e-newsletter.  Please make sure to include your name, street address and phone number in the e-mail.
