The City of Bayfield has once again achieved "Sustained Flight" status in the Bird City Wisconsin program. Bayfield first achieved "Bird City" status in 2012. Bird City Wisconsin is a program of the Milwaukee Audubon Society that recognizes municipalities for the conservation and education activities that they undertake to make their communities healthy for birds...and people.
To be recognized as a Bird City, a community must meet criteria spread across six categories: habitat creation and protection, community forest management, limiting threats to birds, education, energy and sustainability, and the official recognition and celebration of International Migratory Bird Day. International Migratory Bird Day was celebrated in Bayfield in May with a bird walk on the Bayfield Brownstone Trail led by Neil Howk, president of Chequamegon Audubon.
