Solar Statement
The City of Bayfield an Eco-municipality since 2006 started laying the groundwork which set the tone for decision making and moving the community toward collective and meaningful efforts to become a more sustainable, global climate-friendly community. In 2008, the City of Bayfield adopted past Governor Doyle’s’ “25x25” resolution to advance Wisconsin’s vision of energy independence by generating 25 percent of the City of Bayfield’s electricity and 25 percent of our transportation fuels from renewal resources by 2025. The City of Bayfield is dedicated to reducing its carbon footprint, and since 2008, the City has approved 4 residential and 1 commercial solar projects in our community of 487.
The City of Bayfield will leverage SolSmart to achieve the following goals: to engage in a program that will help us develop a more streamlined permitting process, that remains sensitive to our Historic Preservation efforts, encouraging citizens and businesses to go solar. Project goals are to make solar permitting easier for our local government, faster for solar installers and less expensive for consumers. By bringing down costs, we encourage the spread of a locally powered, job-creating energy source that has no fuel costs and produces no pollution.
These efforts demonstrate that our community is committed to driving continual improvement in our solar market, and in the process of doing so, we are achieving goals and objectives listed in the City of Bayfield’s Sustainability Plan and those outlined in the many green and sustainable programs we are involved with including but not limited to; the WI Department of Natural Resources Green Tier-Legacy Community, Wisconsin’s Travel Green, Eco-Municipality, State of Wisconsin’s 25 x 25.
