Green Infrastructure

                                         Register for Rain Garden Workshop:
Please join us for a City-sponsored public workshop with Metro Blooms, experts in resilient landscapes. Each workshop will include learning about rain garden installation and maintenance while helping to restore the rain gardens at the old Courthouse grounds.

OUR GOAL: to expand green infrastructure by increasing local knowledge, connecting property owners with skilled contractors, and building volunteer capacity to support the City’s rain gardens.

LOCATION: Old Courthouse grounds, currently the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore Headquarters. 415 Washington Ave. in Bayfield

DATE and TIME: The July 20th workshop has been postponed.  Stay tuned!  New date to be determined.

Participants should be prepared to work in the rain gardens: wear work clothes, bring work gloves, and be prepared for bugs. Final logistics and requests for tools will be sent to registrants by July 15th. If you have questions, contact: Kate Kitchell at katepkitchell@gmail.com, Peggy Knapp at pknapp02@gmail.com, or Billie Hoopman at cityclerk@cityofbayfield.com.

TRAINING WORKSHOPS ON
GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE INSTALLATION AND MAINTENANCE

Dates and logistics will be posted and announced when available
Purpose: The purpose of this application is to inform the City of Bayfield of the property owner’s intent to convert a lawn or other landscaped area to a Natural Planting Area. The City will retain this application in order to quantify the progress of stormwater reduction efforts through the installation of Green Infrastructure projects.

Definition:
Natural Planting Area shall mean the conversion of lawn or previously unaltered vegetation (e.g. forested woodlot or open field) and establishment of native or other non-invasive species plantings that may exceed eight (8) inches in height. The purpose of such a Natural Planting Area is to capture runoff generated by impermeable surfaces on or adjacent to the property, reduce erosion, and increase species diversity.
